Picture Framers Guild of Australia

As a member of the Picture Framers Guild of Australia we are committed to upholding and promoting the PFGA industry standards.

There are five standards of framing that we offer.

Category 1 – Minimum

This level provides basic framing where price overrides visual appearance and quality.

Category 2 – Decorator

This level provides a visually acceptable frame at a budget price. The protection of the artwork or its long-term visual appearance is not of prime importance. No archival properties are required.

Category 3 – Quality

This level aims to visually enhance artwork and offers a moderate level of protection from airborne pollution and acid damage for around 5 years in normal conditions.

Category 4 – Conservation

This level aims to visually enhance artwork and offers a high level of protection from physical and mechanical damage, airborne pollution, UV light and acids generated by framing materials, for approximately 20 years under normal conditions. All techniques must be reversible and no materials are to be used which are known to be, or might be, damaging or accelerate ageing to the artwork.

Category 5 – Museum

At this level framing aims to visually enhance artwork and offers the ultimate level of protection from physical and mechanical damage, airborne pollution, UV light and acids generated by framing materials for up to 35 years in normal conditions. All techniques must be reversible and no materials are to be used which are known to be, or might be, damaging or accelerate ageing to the artwork.

Please note that Category 4 and 5 framing choices need to be inspected every 5 years to check for deterioration caused by inherent vice in the artwork or by environmental factors external to the frame.

Please feel free to contact us about the choices of framing we offer.
